Another view of the trouble spot, what do you do with a space this awkward? We are still thinking it over...Posted by Picasa

  • It was hard to photograph as the electricity has been turned off because my significant other neglected to notify the utilities of the ownership change!! Hopefully it'll be on today since I have 2 electricians scheduled for the afternoon to look at the "knob and tube" wiring out there.

I think we could turn the cabinet, but the door might be hard to open. The space is about 32" between the wall and the column thing (chimney, so that can't be removed!)

Actually, we might build some open shelving in there to solve the problem. Right now the wiring is my main concern!

  • shelves! that is a great idea!
relax...it will all come together. scour those magazines...there are tons of ideas for "difficult" spaces.
    good luck with that wiring.
looking forward to following along on your journey.

  • Started the "Old House Journal" subscription, I think "This Old House" is on it's way soon. I just finished reading "The Organized Home" (Randall Koll and Casey Ellis), which talks about storage needs, etc. Since there isn't one closet downstairs (yet!) I need to be creative. Thinking outside the box. The kitchen space is so awkward, the fridge is currently in the pantry off the kitchen. I've started disassembling the cabinets, we're pitching the doors since they are so sticky, but we may keep the rest for use in the basement-if I can get the stickiness off. I think I'll be able to visualize better when the space is more open.
